Why steel, not paper?
Your seed phrase is the only way to get your crypto back if your hardware wallet breaks, gets lost or is stolen. Whoever has it can access your wallet, and if you lose it, your coins are gone.
Paper burns, gets wet, fades and gets thrown away by accident. A house fire reaches about 850°C / 1,500°F. Coinplate is fireproof up to 1,300°C / 2,400°F.
Built to survive the worst
Every Coinplate is a sandwich of two 5 mm (3/16″) stainless steel plates (AISI 304), joined with stainless bolts. It weighs 1.14 kg (2.5 lb) and resists fire, water, corrosion and crushing.
The layout is deep engraved and your seed phrase is marked as deep dents in the steel, so it stays readable for decades.

How it works
With Coinplate Alpha you make a metal backup of your seed phrase at home in about 10 minutes. Everything you need is in the box.
1. Pre-mark it
Use the included marker pen to mark the first 4 letters of each seed word, then double-check them.
2. Punch it in
Press the automatic punch tool on each letter space. It springs back and leaves a deep dent in the steel.
3. Close it and hide it
Bolt the two plates together, add the tamper-evident seal and store your Coinplate somewhere safe.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need any extra tools?
No, not for Coinplate Alpha or Coinplate Grid. Everything you need is included, and you mark your seed words by pressing the included tool on the letter or number fields. Coinplate Punch needs letter stamps and a hammer, or an electric engraver. Both are available as a bundle in our shop.
Is Coinplate BIP39 compatible?
Yes. Every Coinplate stores 24 seed words: one 24 word seed phrase or two 12 word seed phrases. It works with Ledger, Trezor, Keepkey and other hardware wallets, and with software wallets like MetaMask.
Are the first 4 letters of each word enough?
Yes. The BIP39 wordlist of 2,048 words is designed so that the first four letters identify each word unambiguously.
How sturdy is Coinplate?
Very. Two 5 mm (3/16″) stainless steel plates are bolted into a 10 mm (3/8″) thick slab weighing over 1 kg (2.5 lb). It is fireproof up to 1,300°C / 2,400°F and built to survive drops, crushing and corrosion.
Do you ship worldwide? Are there import fees?
Yes, we ship to any country with FedEx Priority, and in the EU also with DHL. Shipping is free on orders over €100 (otherwise €9). For the USA and UK all import duties and taxes are included in the price, and in the EU VAT is included, so there are no extra fees on delivery.
